News Values

Five news values
 Prominence:
Famous people get more coverage just because they are famous. If you fall on the road it won't make the news, but if the president or a model fall on the road than this is a big news. Prominent people make more news. True, names makes news, but some names make more news than others because of their prominence. The famous, infamous and the eccentric people have a special appeal for the public.

Timeliness:
timeliness means that the news that publish should be still "fresh" ,like it happen yesterday or today. Reader always want to know what happen now, if the news is already 2 or 3 month ago, reader will lose their interest on it. For example, an accident happen on 2th of July, the news should be publish on 3th of July, so that the reader can get the information of the accident quickly.

Proximity:
Proximity simply refers to the nearness of the event. If it happens nearby it is usually of more interest or more newsworthy than if it happens elsewhere. For example, the school newspaper audiences want to know about events in their school community, just as local print and broadcast news sources cover stories that would not be of interest to readers or viewers in other cities.

 Human interests :
Although most of these topics are useful to know and of great importance to most, sometimes you would like to hear how an issue really affects a community, a family or you. This is where a human interest story enters. For example, you can look for stories about famine, a swimmer with one leg, two-headed babies and many more.

Consequence:
Consequence is same as significance. It means that people that affected by the news is important. People will always interest about the news will affected them. For example, citizen will interested
news about president, it is because president is the one that lead their country and will affected economic.

Relevant article with news values.
The topic was "A tour around Taylor's" with the student prefects from Methodist (ACS) Seremban. We chose this topic because it was an unexpected surprise for us to find a group of young students coming here to experience University life as a Taylorian.
First of all, it was timely as it happened right when we were tasked to find a story. It was the latest news that would definitely interest any taylorian about their own campus. Secondly, it's rather involving the human interest element in a Taylorian's point of view. Our point in this is that we feel proud having students visiting our campus and may be thinking about joining us in this wonderful campus as well, reaping in the great benefits Taylor's University has to offer.Thirdly, the news happened closely within campus itself, tying close to the proximity value of a news values.
