Have you ever used an online newpaper?

The advance of technology has transformed our daily life. Nowadays we can use technology to find anything we want by only one click. For instance, we can get the latest news from internet (we called it as online newspaper) instead of printed newspaper. Through the survey we did about the differences between about online newspaper and printed newspaper.We found that the amount of online readers are increasing years by years.

 By using your hand to slide your ipad, you can get the newest information that you want. The tread of  reading newspaper online are growing fast as internet develops more online news websites for online readers so that they can get the news from multiple online news easily.

Here're some experiences of our group member about printed newspaper and online newspapers.

Joanne's experience:

In my opinion, I do prefer reading an online newspaper as compared to printed newspaper. I chose both Star online and the infamous printed Star Newspaper to be my examples. I will never forget going online to read the news, it was not only clean but also very efficient. Holding a printed newspaper stain my fingers with black ink hence making them very dirty. It appeared very disgusting for everyone around me. The other fact that made me chose online newspaper over printed newspaper is that online newspaper is so much more organized than traditional printed newspaper. When I got online, I can quickly browse the news section that interest me. With just a click of my mouse, I can just get anything I want. 

Suslin's experience：

In my own experience in online news is the easiest way to get the news, you just need a smart phone and a computer with you then you can get the news whatever you want. If you want to get older news you can find from online easily. I dislike the smell of print news and if you want to find an older news then it’s difficult to get it when you want, then you will become crazy. And if you try to read the print news after you finish the print news then you will know how dirty your hand is. I almost use online news more than print news because I don’t want my hand be so dirty. So I like online news more than the print news.

Coshin's experience:

From my point of view, I prefer to read news from online newspaper than printed newspaper. In these days of technological change, electronic devices are widely use. The majority is the smart phone user. I used to get news or informations from internet. It's much more convenient. I can stay at home and read it via phone instead of going out to buy the printed one. It saves time. Besides that, I needn't to bring the printed newspaper all the time wherever I go. As for online newspaper, I can read whenever I want to read it. It's easy to use. Several simple steps and then I can choose the edition that I wanted to read. Easy and convenient are the reason I choose online newspaper.

Nanyoung's exprience:

Actually, decade years ago, I can’t imagine I can read some breaking new via internet. However, now, we can read any breaking new where they from. 
For me, I’m studying overseas now, but I still can know what happened in Korea, appreciate to online newspaper.

Kevin's and Guat Ling's experience:

I prefer online newspaper than printed newspaper. The online newspaper can be updated immediately so they would have the newest information as opposed to print newspaper's which must first be written, then printed and then distributed.The news that I got from online last night may be the latest news on printed newspapers today.Besides,online newspapers can be interactive and include different thing's such as video's and audio whereas print newspaper's have to rely on just word and pictures. It's more interesting if we got full of latest newspaper in short duration video than read the printed newspaper which full of texts and the printed newspaper's smell is so heavy!

But meanwhile, the consequences of online newspaper occurs due to the development of technology.Print newspaper's would also most likely have less error's than online one's as usually they are more thoroughly edited. All types of newspaper's can lie but I think online newspaper would be more likely to be false as anyone can make one even by putting edited videos or pictures on the internet.

So will we only use online newspaper instead of printed newspaper in future? Not all of the online news can be trusted so  the most believable news are only available on printed newspaper since it has been double checked.

FB, Facebook

We will discuss Facebook and privacy issues for this week's topic.

"If Facebook was a country, it would be the eighth most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria." Mark Zuckerberg, the 24-year-old founder and CEO of Facebook said. He is a computer programmer and also has the distinction of being the world's youngest billionaire, which he achieved in 2008. 

Provide three main reasons why do students like to join FB??Why??

People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook. Almost every students have a FB account. Why do students like to join FB? As a student, I use facebook every day, not always to waste time. In fact, students like to join facebook as they can keep in touch with friends. Facebook allows us to connects with others easily. Through facebook, students can see what their friends did yesterday, what they are doing right now and what they are going to do on tomorrow. I have found a few of long-lost friends though facebook. Besides that, students like to join facebook because they take it as entertainment. Facebook allows its users to share the entertainment and information choices in their lives. Students spend their time on their facebook homepage which is full with musics, photos, videos, statuses and so on. Students often kill time by entertain themselves with facebook online games. Moreover, students like to join facebook as they could get information from facebook. For instance, for those students whom seldom read newpaper, they would never know what's happening and what's going on. Therefore, facebook is the place that where they get the information from.

What are the three most dangerous consequences of revealing too much personal information on FB??

Safety

Nowadays people like to share everything of their life with others people. Let’s say, they tend to post their private information which including their home address, mobile number or family members on their Facebook account for getting more new friends from other place. But they don’t realize that they had put their personal safety at risk. Predator may use information provided about a person’s birthday, interests or hobbies to impersonate them especially kids or teen since they are too small to recognize whether who know them with malicious purpose.

Eye of 'Spy'

There is very dangerous for too much personal information on FB, if there is a “Spy” always looking at you at spying what are you going to do, where are you right now, and everything you had uploading up to your profile. If they want to kidnap you or whatever they can get the information from your FB then you going to get trouble soon. 

Identity theft

Imagine your life, which you’ve been living in since the day you were born being stolen, you have no Identity, no actual certificate of your life. You are a stranger. Hackers can just replace you in your life, be you for a day, a week, a month even up to years. That’s how dangerous the world we live in nowadays. With the internet so freely accessible, everyone can just be anyone. Facebook is like a platform for people to share everything of their life, we sometime share too much and forget to keep our privacy in check.

List & discuss three ways your privacy may be exposed on FB.

Firstly, when you check in some places, somebody can trace you easily. They know where you are. Then, some people will post their phone numbers and addresses on their facebook, it will also expose their privacy. Lastly, some people connect their facebook with their bank account to purchase some online stuffs, so, if the somebody hack to his PC, it will expose his account and password.

Provide three effective practices/ ways to protect your privacy on FB

1. Don’t press the sharing button too much 

If you want to share something on facebook, before we share something, we can customize the settings and set a certain type of content to be visible to the people on some of yourlist, and invisible to other. 

2. Checking in to places
Actually, facebook has setting under sharing on facebook often goes unnoticed, and it can be very important, as it lets your friends check you in to place. So, it's better if you change your setting of privacy for sharing your current location. Having someone else telling the world where u are can be unpleasant and even dangerous in some cases. If you want to avoid it, disable this feature.

3. Use the ‘instant personalization'

We’ve covered this setting in-depth before. Essentially, it lets 3rd-party websites personalize your experience, which can be nice, but it also allows access to your personal data. You can opt-out of instant personalization on individual 3rd-party websites, such as Pandora, simply by clicking on “No Thanks” when asked about it. However, on Facebook you can completely disable it by leaving the checkbox before “Enable instant personalization on partner websites” unchecked.

Idol, Idol, Idol, G-dragon

My group members and I thought about an Idol who is loved by most young people.

We chose G-Dragon as a idol.

1.     Background Information of G-Dragon

 ; Kwon JiYong, better known as G-Dragon, officially debuted as the leader of Korean Hip-Hop group BigBang. He has been trained by the YG family since he was 12 years old. Now, he is the most popular rapper in Korea. Besides of rapping and beat-boxing, he can also compose songs. Furthermore, he is well known as fashionista, Channel and Louis Vuitton want to support GD for advertising their products.

2.     Controversies

 ; So apparently, G-Dragon has been caught by authorities for smoking marijuana which was given by one Japanese fan. It was said that after taking a drug test, authorities found a small amount of marijuana from his hair. So they decided to just warn him for this time. In addition, when the authorities asked GD the incident, GD confessed that he smoked it only once ‘ a cigarette’ which he thought to have a different smell from a regular cigarette.

3.     Behavior that young people want to follow

 ; The style of the famous people that make the young people like to follow, they think that is quite awesome, for GD, his fashion is the most common thing all the people want to follow. He try some new item that the others cannot think. On the other hand, he is so famous as a passionate person in the entertainment department in Korea. So, millions of his fan want to follow his behavior.

4.     Positive effects on young people’s behavior

 ; GD inspires people to be something special. He inspires people to try their talent and learn new things. Whenever people look at him they’ll be saying, ‘If GD can do that, why can’t I?’ People will love to perform more and try out their talents.

5.     Negative effects on young people’s behavior

 ; People who are not bright enough sees GD as an idol. One who will be the best. But people like these do not see the real values that should be learned but instead they’d be following around GD, an pretending to be him. In a way, people will not shine as being themselves but feel good shining under the shadow of a major Kpop star. People who want to follow GD without sight, maybe they’ll lose their own identity. (ex. Smoking cigarettes to follow GD)

6.     Promote our positive values

 ; Now the music program named ‘Ingigayo’ tried to promote good values like, ‘saving electricity’, ‘safety’, by celebrities in Korea, and GD is the one of the celebrities involved. By that kinds of promoting, by hundreds of fan, GD can bring forth good outcomes to society.

7.     Influence to young people

 ; Young people are so influenced by idol. Especially in ‘fashion’. Like GD, he is always at the top of fashion, in hair style also. GD is also brimming over with his talent. This also make young people chase after him. Media also make him more popular and influential among the Korean population.
